Richard Curry was elected as Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Ohio Quartermaster on June 11, 2023 and continues to serve in that compacity today.

Prior positions in the VFW have included: District 11 Commander, Sr Vice, Jr Vice, Judge Advocate & Surgeon, VFW Post 8794 Whitehall, Ohio; Commander, Quartermaster, Sr Vice and Adjutant. And as VFW Department Membership Director 2021-23.

COL Curry was also assigned as Chief of Security and Emergency Services at Defense Supply Center Columbus retiring in 2018.

COL Richard Curry previous assignment was Commander of the 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team from 4 February 2006 until 31 August 2009. As the Brigade Commander he was responsible for the 37th IBCT mobilization, deployment and Theater Operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 2007-2008. Prior to assuming command of the 37th IBCT COL Curry commanded the 1-107th Cavalry from Jan 2003-Jan 2006, which included that battalion’s deployment to Iraq in support of OIF in 2004-2005.

COL Curry began his career as an enlisted soldier in the Army

prior to being commissioned in 1986 upon graduating from Officer

Candidate School, Fort Richardson, Alaska. His first officer

assignment was Platoon Leader for an Armored Cavalry Regiment.

He has four company level combat commands and served in a variety of

staff positions.

He has served oversees tours of duty in Iraq, Kosovo, Kuwait and Korea.

Col. Curry is a graduate of the Armor Officers Basic and Advance Courses, Ordnance Advance Course, Support Operations Course, M1 Tank Commanders Course, Infantry Mortar Officer Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, War College Defense Strategy Course, Command and General Staff College, Armor Battalion and Brigade Pre-Command Course.

Col. Curry’s decorations include: Meritorious Unit Commendation (11 ACR, Iraq), Order of Saint George (Armor), Order of Saint Maurice (Infantry) and Order of Saint Barbara (Artillery).

Col Curry holds a Masters Degree in Military History and a Bachelor’s Degree in History.

Col. Curry was born April 30, 1955 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He currently resides in Columbus, Ohio with his wife Christine.
